Emergency Shelter Construction Underway!

We are excited to announce that the renovation and expansion of our 20 Walworth Street Emergency Shelter has begun. With this project, we will be able to more effectively meet the needs of our guests.

Both Emergency Shelters on Walworth Street will be renovated this year to update the facilities and increase room capacity for more guests.

Your contributions to our 2019 Shelter Accessibility and Enhancement Capital Campaign will also allow us to repave the driveway and make our entrances ADA compliant as part of the project.

We will continue to provide updates as construction progresses.

Thank you to all who have helped make this project possible!

Code Blue Shelter Update

Our Code Blue shelter is a low-barrier, temporary winter shelter that aims to help those facing homelessness with a refuge for the freezing winter months. This year, we are located at 120 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs, in a motel-like setting.

Natalie, our shelter supervisor, believes the change to separate rooms instead of one large space has been well-received by our Code Blue guests. "I think they are adjusting well," she tells us. "It gives people privacy and dignity."

"Our goal is to keep people alive in the winter. We also offer pathways to our Emergency Shelter on Walworth Street, treatment, and housing. This year, we have 11 Code Blue guests that have opted into a treatment program and have successfully put 9 individuals into housing! Code Blue is more than just shelter. It's a stepping stone to services and stability."

The shelter is currently in need of grab-n-go/single-serving snacks. Donations can be brought directly to the shelter at 120 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Monetary contributions are also appreciated.

Thank you, Lori, for being a Hope Maker!

Q: What do you find most enjoyable or rewarding about this work?

Relating and really listening to our guests on a regular basis. A little kindness goes a very long way, especially working with the population we work with.

Q: In your opinion, how does the work of SOS impact the greater Saratoga community?

I, for one, did not realize how many people faced homelessness in Saratoga County alone. I have always had a soft spot for those facing homelessness.

Q: What do you want the community to know about the work we do?

Unfortunately, homelessness is still very stigmatized. I believe SOS and the work we do is bringing recognition to the general public that people we serve deserve a chance for stabilization.

Upcoming Events

Leap of Kindness Day was invented by the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce in 2016. Shelters of Saratoga is honored to be participating in this kind-hearted event this year! Please click here to see how you can help our organization, and others in the Saratoga area, on Leap of Kindness Day!
