February 2025 Newsletter

From the Desk of Our Executive Director

Homelessness in our region has surged by 138% in just two years (New York State Comptroller’s Office, 2024), and skyrocketing rents are forcing more people into crisis. At Shelters of Saratoga, we’ve seen the impact firsthand—last year alone, we assisted 464 individuals in need of shelter and support.

We’re expanding our Walworth Street Emergency Shelters, adding more supportive housing, and working toward a permanent Code Blue shelter—but the need is still growing.

I urge you to read more about the crisis and how we’re responding by checking out the links below.

Feeling The Love at Code Blue

This week, we brought a little Valentine’s Day warmth to Code Blue by decorating the space with heartfelt messages. Staff and guests wrote words of encouragement on paper hearts, filling the walls with reminders of kindness and hope.

Seeing our guests’ faces light up was a touching reminder of how even the smallest gestures can make a big impact. In times of struggle, love and support matter more than ever.

Thank you to everyone who helps create a welcoming space for those in need—your generosity and compassion make all the difference.

Thank You, Broadview FCU!

As winter settles in, staying warm becomes a challenge for many in our community. Thanks to Broadview Federal Credit Union’s Code Blue drive, Shelters of Saratoga received essential cold-weather gear to help keep our guests safe. Broadview secured $60,000 in funding to purchase and distribute winter essentials—like hats, gloves, and blankets—to 14 nonprofits across New York State, including ours.

We are so grateful for their generosity and dedication to helping those in need. Their support ensures that our guests have the warmth and protection they deserve during the harsh winter months. Thank you, Broadview, for making a difference in our community!

Ways to Help SOS

Come see us at ChowderFest 2025, February 8th!

We will be joining Olde Bryan Inn on their patio to help pass out their delicious chowder and talk to our neighbors about our mission.

Olde Bryan Inn is donating all proceeds from ChowderFest to our Code Blue shelter - so make sure to stop in and give their chowder a taste (and a vote!).

Cheesecake for Charity through Tomorrow at Olde Bryan Inn

Tomorrow is the last day where $2 from each slice of cheesecake purchased goes directly to our Code Blue shelter. We're incredibly grateful for Olde Bryan Inn's continued partnership and generous support, which helps us make a meaningful impact in our community.
