Healing Her Heart: Naomi's Story

For Naomi, moving forward has meant learning something that has never come easily: patience.

“I’m the kind of person who wants things done instantaneously, so I’m learning to be more patient,” she says.

Today, Naomi is staying at Shelters of Saratoga’s Emergency Shelter, where she is working toward permanent housing and rebuilding her confidence. Her path here has been shaped by experiences that began long before she ever faced homelessness.

Permanent Code Blue Groundbreaking

On Thursday, October 1, 2026, a ceremonial groundbreaking took place at 116 Ballston Ave,
with local leaders, community partners, supporters, and SOS staff, signifying the
beginning of construction for the permanent Code Blue building.

City, County, and State officials with SOS representatives and supporters of the project celebrated the groundbreaking

For more than a decade, Shelters of Saratoga has operated the Code Blue program from seven temporary locations. Repeated, costly relocations have left our most vulnerable neighbors without stability and our community without a sustainable, long-term solution. With Saratoga County experiencing a rise in homelessness, affordable housing increasingly difficult to find, and dangerously cold temperatures putting lives at risk, the need has never been more urgent. A permanent, 75-bed Code Blue shelter will ensure that no one in our community is left outside simply because there is nowhere safe for them to go.

Shelters of Saratoga Enters Public Phase of
Blue, the Color of Hope

Campaign to Build a Permanent Code Blue Shelter

Demand is rising, and temporary solutions are no longer viable. The County has purchased land, removing the largest barrier to progress.
City and County leaders are aligned,
creating a rare moment of shared readiness.

Over $4.3 million in early gifts and
100% Board participation demonstrate
strong community commitment.

The new shelter is scheduled to open in
November 2027, but reaching that milestone depends on securing the remaining capital campaign funding now. Every gift made today moves us closer to opening the doors of a permanent, purpose-built shelter before another winter puts our neighbors at risk.
