Corey's Comeback

“I got out of the pits of hell.”

For Corey, those words carry the weight of a journey that spans more than 20 years—through addiction, homelessness, broken relationships, and uncertainty, but also through hard work, education, recovery, and ultimately, a new beginning.

Today, Corey is a former Shelters of Saratoga Emergency Shelter guest, a college graduate, and a powerful example of what can happen when determination meets the right support.

But getting here was anything but easy.

Just before Travers weekend, an unexpected flood prevented Thorn + Roots from opening their doors. In the midst of dealing with the damage, their team found a meaningful way to give back—donating their food and supplies to Shelters of Saratoga and coming together to prepare meals for our guests.

We are incredibly grateful to the Thorn + Roots team for thinking of our neighbors during a challenging time of their own. This is what community taking care of community looks like.
